Our Opportunity

 

As a result of our continued growth we’ve a new and exciting opportunity for a graduate level Materials Scientist to join our ever-expanding and dynamic team of scientists and engineers. The role of Materials Scientist is to ensure we’re using the most modern and innovative materials especially composites, polymers and metallic alloys in our industry leading devices.

In this role you’ll utilise your proven qualifications and possible commercial experience to solve real world manufacturing problems and challenges, which will involve thorough research, analysis and investigation, both internally and externally, to ensure we’re using the best materials and reducing costs.

The Materials Scientist opportunity would be ideally suited to either a fresh graduate or someone with some commercial experience, who is looking to build on their academic skills by working in a fast paced, ever-changing company. The daily challenges and variety in the role will mean two days are never the same.

 

Your Role

 

  • You’ll have sole responsibility for materials science for Innovative Technology and be the key point of contact internally and externally for all materials related queries
  • You’ll work from sets of specific requirements to research and recommend the most suitable materials for our products, factoring in durability, longevity and cost
  • You’ll liaise and build strong working relationships with our suppliers and aid operations by ensuring supplier integrity
  • You’ll be responsible for preparing samples for different types of testing used to characterise various materials’ properties and carrying out these tests

 

 

Your Skills & Experience

 

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Materials Science/Polymer Science Engineering is essential
  • Experience with polymers, metallic alloys and composites is required.
  • Experience with polymer processing techniques e.g. injection moulding and extrusion is required
  • Experience with metal processing techniques such as sintering, powder metallurgy and heat treatment is desirable
  • Experience with thermal, optical and mechanical analytical techniques is desirable
  • Some commercial or placement work experience, gained in a busy, hands-on role would be an advantage
  • High levels of organisation and prioritisation abilities, with experience of problem solving
  • Willingness to travel internationally on a periodic basis
