Leading Industry figure, David Bellis MBE, Chairman of Innovative Technology celebrates landmark 80th birthday

David Bellis MBE, a leading figure in the cash handling industry will celebrate his 80th birthday this week.

David’s personal career has been exciting and varied, as a key stakeholder in the coin industry, David’s ever-expanding knowledge of coins earned him the accolade of chairman of the Association’s Committee on coinage, reporting to BACTA and consulting closely with the Royal Mint. 1998 saw David honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for his significant achievements and outstanding services to businesses in the community.  In 2003, Oldham College announced a prestigious tribute and opened a new building named after David (The Bellis Building). As Oldham born, Oldham educated and always resident within the Borough, David has ‘carried the flag for Oldham’ in all of his activities – never more so than his contribution and involvement in Oldham’s wider business community.

An inventor and engineer, David produced his first cash handling solution back in 1964 and now more than fifty years on he is still going strong as Chairman of Innovative Technology, the leading cash-handling technology provider. From his humble beginnings designing his first coin payout machine in his leaky garage in Royton, to forming Coin Controls and then founding Innovative Technology after initially retiring, David has had a successful and lengthy career in the cash handling industry.  Innovative Technology has grown from strength to strength, celebrating 25 years in business in 2017 as a result of significant investment in research & development which has seen the organisation grow into a worldwide company with 10 office locations and a global network of over 25 Trading Partners. Its success has been noted in numerous awards including the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and the Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100. David is highly regarded in the industry and is a great ambassador for his home town of Oldham and amongst the technology world.

All the staff at Innovative Technology and some of David’s close friends celebrated his 80th birthday in the office last week and he is also looking forward to marking this milestone birthday with some of his oldest industry colleagues at ICE in London.
